There has long been a debate about whether photography is Art. Cotton (2009) argues that it is the motivations and working practices of photographers that are the determining criteria. In an interview with the Guardian (6 September 2013) David Bailey puts it more succinctly: “Photography is not art and painting’s not art, it’s whether the person whose doing it is an artist.”
